Where we are

Between Atocha and the Retiro Park
Situación del MNA

The National Anthropology Museum is located in a strategic place at the entrance to Madrid's historic centre, on the corner of the Paseo de la Infanta Isabel and the Calle Alfonso XII, very near the Glorieta de Carlos V (which everyone calls Atocha) and the Paseo del Prado, the "Art Walk," a stone's throw away from two of the city's most wonderful places, the Retiro Park and the Cuesta de Moyano, and next to the Royal Botanical Garden and the Royal Astronomical Observatory, the historic institutions of the Hill of the Sciences, Charles III's enlightened project.

But it also looks south, together with one of Madrid's main "gates," Atocha Station, so is in contact with the most active, productive metropolis, the arteries life flows through, with all those people it aspires to be useful for, a place of reference, a meeting space for building values.

More specifically, this is our exact address:

C/ Alfonso XII, 68Salto de línea 28014 – Madrid

Getting there

In such a privileged location, there are many public transport connections so there are also many ways of getting to the museum:

  • Metro: Atocha Renfe station (Line 1). (Metro de Madrid Link externo)
  • Buses: 10, 14, 19, 26, 32, 37, 85, 86 and Circular. (EMT Link externo)
  • Short-distance and medium and long-distance trains: Atocha Station (Cercanías Madrid Link externo)
  • Nearest BiciMad stations: 69, 80 and 81 (see map Link externo).

We recommend not coming in your private vehicle. Apart from the fact that we encourage you to use the bicycle or public transport because they pollute less, the museum has no car parking space and parking in the area is not easy. If you must come in your car, there is a public car park in Atocha Station.

If you are accompanying a school group or another kind of group coming to the Museum in a private coach, we suggest you tell the driver to leave you at the side of the museum facing onto the Calle Alfonso XII. He can then go to the area for coaches reserved by the city council next to the fence of the Botanical Garden, also facing onto the Calle Alfonso XII, and wait until you call him at the end of your visit .
