These cylinders were part of the cargo of the Phoenician wreck at Bajo de la Campana. Similar pieces have been found in a tomb from the late 7th century BCE in the necropolis of La Joya (Huelva) and are thought to have been used as burnishing stones for jewellery. They can therefore be related to the work of Phoenician jewellers known in the indigenous centres in the region of Alicante, north of Bajo de la Campana.Salto de línea Other authors argue that it could be a betilo, an erect stone used for rituals, linked to the sacred elements of life, fecundity and death-regenerationSalto de línea
