Museum public

sala de exposición permanente

From a purely quantitative point of view, the fact is that the change of venue of the Museum in 2008 has meant a clear increase of visitors to it, so, in 1999 the visitors to the museum were a total of 25,000, while in the In 2014, the Museum surpassed the barrier of 100,000 visitors. It is true that the year 2014 has been especially atypical for the Museum. For it was the year in which "La Navegación Oceánica" was inaugurated, dedicated the wreck Our Lady of the Mercedes as a permanent exhibition, but since then these figures are being strengthened, making to think that it is possible that what could be taken as an isolated landmark due to exceptional circumstances may in fact be a continuous upward dynamic in time, magnified punctually by what was done in 2014.

However, as a public institution that is, the Museum seeks not only an increase in the number of visitors, but also an improvement in the quality of the visit, for which other characteristics of the public need to be known. Aware of this, the Museum is a member of the Permanent Laboratory of Public Museums, which includes all the State Museums, and which carries out general studies of all museums on topics such as the experience of the visit, as specific studies of each museum .

In the case of the National Museum of Underwater Archeology, the specific study was published in 2013, on data collected in the year after the inauguration of the new headquarters, on a real sample of 635 individuals and 17 school groups.

From this study interesting data about our audience can be known, such as the gender of the visitors, their studies, or their age.

Thus, the results of the study generally determined that the visitors were to a greater extent (56.3%) adults and young people in an individual visit, which, with 58.6%, men exceeded the women in the visits to the museum. Also, the majority age segment was between 26 and 45 years old, and that 49.2% of visitors had higher education. The study valued other aspects that are outside the character of this article, but which are also interesting, such as the impact of the view on the public or the evaluation of services.
