Introduction to the methods of acquiring cultural assets

There are many ways of increasing the Spanish Cultural Heritage. Each of them, independently of the entity, institution or ministry making the purchase, requires a favourable agreement from the Spanish Historical Heritage Assets Classification, Assessment and Exportation Board, as established in the Contracts Regulations of the Public Administrations.

This can occur through:

• Preferential acquisition rights:
  • Right of pre-emption.
  • Right of first refusal.
  • Irrevocable sale offer.
• Direct sale offers.
• Attending auctions abroad.
• Tax payment in kind.
• Donations of cultural assets
