The Spanish government may purchase cultural assets at public auctions abroad. In this case, it does not have any preferential acquisition right and acts as an individual, meaning that a government representative must bid to acquire the asset.
The assignment of the asset and the total cost of the same are indicated by means of a resolution from the Director General for Fine Arts and Cultural Assets.
In general, the Spanish Government is the institution that acquires the most assets at international level to increase the national collections.
