History and aims

The Marquis conditioned his donation on the creation of a Foundation with its own capital and aims.

In order to comply with his will and testament, a Board of Trustees was constituted by Spanish Ministerial Order of 22 March 1934.

Foundation Aims:

  • 1. To ensure that the collections are not separated or disposed of and remain together at the Ventura Rodriguez site as well as collaborate with the custody, exhibition and improvement of the heritage the State inherited from the Marquis.
  • 2. Grant awards to artists and collaborate to conduct educational and cultural activities so as to spread awareness for the collections, the Museum and the figure of Mr. Enrique de Aguilera y Gamboa, the 17th Marquis of Cerralbo.

The Board of Trustees, which meets at least twice a year, is composed on the express wishes of the Marquis by “Ex Officio Trustees” the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, the President of the Supreme Court, the President of todays High Court of Justice of Madrid, the current Marquis of Cerralbo by virtue of their offices; and by a member to be freely designated by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Finally, the Director of the Museum acts as secretary with no voting rights.Salto de línea
