Flemish coffer dated for its typology and style to the 15th or 16th century. This type of storage furniture was usually found in the dais, a femenine space inside christian homes. The dais comes, originally, from the Arabs, and at first was used by both men and women; it is only from the 13th century onwards that it becomes a femenine space, reserved for sewing, spinning, reading, praying or receiving guests.

Because of its typology, the coffer might be from the 15th or 16th century, crowning moment of this specific typology, but popular furniture tends to copy models throughout time, so it might have been made in a later century.
