Cave of Altamira

The cave of Altamira is the main collection of the Museum of Altamira. As the custodian of such a valuable heritage, its main function is to preserve and study the cave for present and future society. For this reason, the Museum promotes conservation studies by external scientific bodies, carries out active preventive conservation work and controls the state of the cave and its artistic representations, and also carries out research on its rock art and Palaeolithic human occupations. The result of this intense activity is a large number of national and international publications.
