The conservation work undertaken at the Museum is intended to preserve the physical integrity of the collections. In order to do this we follow the principles of preventive conservation, which is fully integrated into the Museum’s operation, in order to minimise the risks to which the pieces are exposed on a daily basis within our institution and in external temporary exhibitions.
We make sure that the collections are stored appropriately in the storerooms and exhibition rooms, and that the necessary precautions are taken when packaging and transferring items; whilst always incorporating sustainability criteria, both in terms of energy consumption and the reuse of materials.
In the restoration laboratory, the necessary restoration work for preventing the process of active deterioration that compromises the conservation of the work is carried out, and value is added to objects that need part of their lost identity recovered.
