The Museum’s Volunteer programme is based on the need to take advantage of the human potential of people over the age of 55, with higher levels of education and culture, in good health and well-being, who wish to remain active, playing a useful role in society, and who have free time. They are authentic “walking libraries”, who wish to transmit their knowledge and experience to younger generations.
The first Senior Cultural Volunteers signed up in 1993 with the support of the European Union. The programme is promoted, directed and coordinated by the Spanish Confederation of Senior Classrooms (CEATE), a state-owned non-profit organisation. This socio-cultural project is supported by the Caja Madrid Social Project, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (IMSERSO).
