Ceramics

Línea horizontal

This collection provides a fairly comprehensive overview of Spanish ceramics from the late 15th to the early 20th century.

While most of the pieces are from the Valencia region (with the ones from Manises of particular note), there are also works from Castile (Talavera de la Reina and Puente del Arzobispo), Aragon (Teruel), Andalusia (Granada, Jaén and Seville), and some Catalonian works.

The collection is completed with works by contemporaries of Sorolla such as Mariano Benlliure, Alberto Lagos and Daniel Zuloaga; pieces from Bohemia; French, English and Dutch modernist pieces, and a few oriental works.

Almost all of these were purchased by the artist during his travels, but some were made on commission, as evidenced by the Museum’s records of correspondence between Sorolla, his friends and artisans, which mention these acquisitions.

The collection consists of 1,001 pieces, all of which have been catalogued and assigned inventory numbers from 40001 to 41019. However, these have not yet been included in the online catalogue.
