The collection of antique photographs consists of 7,167 pieces. The Sorolla family’s close links with photography is due to the fact that the artist’s father-in law, Antonio García Peris, was a very well-known photographer in his time.
The collection mainly consists of photos of the family, monuments and popular themes. The former are primarily used for research purposes, as they provide us with an insight into the artist’s life, and life in those times, along with Sorolla’s work processes and travels. Many of the photos were taken by family members, although some are by well-known photographers such as Ragel and Kaulak, and others still were purchased from famous photographers like Laurent.
Most of the photography collection has been catalogued and assigned inventory numbers from 80001 to 84873. You can see most of the in the online catalogue.
