Linen brocatelle fabric, 1676-1700. Lyon (France)
Piece with a rectangular outline and horizontal direction made up of 6 pieces joined together. The gold background is decorated with a naturalistic motif of flowers, leaves and wreaths in golden tones. The borders are hemmed. It is lined with a salmon pink backing fabric.
Design woven in Lyon at the end of the 17th and start of the 18th centuries, for use in upholstery. Symmetrical and balanced composition. At this time, the motif was symmetrical though later on the elements would evolve completely freely and fantastically in the bizarre style.
