Cocktail dress, ca. 1923
Cocktail dress in pale green crêpe. Straight, tubular line with a round neck, it is sleeveless and mid-calf length.
The neckline is embroidered with concentric lines, from which straight lines drop down to end in a wide, embroidered strip at the bottom, comprising curvy waves, transparent crystals, faceted beads and silver-coated tubes. Geometrical and vegetal decoration.
It belonged to the actress Catalina Bárcena. Jeanne Lanvin created a number of designs for Catalina to wear both on stage, for evening wear or day wear. The designer, alongside Coco Chanel and Madeleine Vionnet, was the most influential in the fashions of the twenties and thirties.
