Man from Granada

Man from Granada

Blue velvet jacket and waistcoat decorated with black trim and filigree buttons, wool breeches with side openings closed with buttons and a tasselled drawstring to tighten them at the knee. The pink tone of the sash stands out.

The ensemble represents the stereotypical Spaniard from the first half of the 19th century, dramatically set in the school of boleros.

In this, we can also see a predecessor of the current bullfighter’s costume, both in the decoration and the tightness of the breeches. The short, fitted jacket that is lavishly decorated and has no buttons is called the marsellés.
