Heartfelt Homage to the People

The Republican Constitution of 1931 saw cultural heritage as a tool to hand down educational and social values. A major effort was made to bring culture closer to the rural world. The creation of the Museo del Pueblo Español, is 1934, was conceived as a homage to the people. However, the outbreak of the Civil War in 1936 would frustrate its planned opening, even though it did remain active behind closed doors.
