Knowing about America

This area is centred on the way that America was first observed through myths, and how we got to really know this continent through the information of chroniclers, the scientific and discovery expeditions, the science cabinets and cartography.

The image of America has been elaborated through years with a combination of reality observation and an important amount of fantasy.

The Museum’s tour starts here, showing the instruments that made possible the knowledge of America, the objects sent to Spain, the images drawn by European artists which turned into models that have lasted until our days, many times showing an image far from reality.
